CARRENTALS ALEXA
Visual Design, UX

The Setup

Alexa skill for CarRentals.com that would allow customers with accounts to rent a car via voice. This was a side project that I worked on with a small team and was a great opportunity to learn something new.

The Approach

Designing an experience that is totally controlled by voice was a new challenge for me. In order to visualize the customer flow and create a compelling experience, I worked with a web app called Tortu. This application allowed me to map out the different customer flows in a visual way, and hear the automated voice step by step and go through the customer experience. As a group, we also tested many iterations of the skill on an Alexa device which was extremely helpful in working out the bugs.

The Solution

Working on a small team with limited time, we determined a core set of must-have functionality and stayed laser focused on building an MVP version of the skill. Though simple, the final skill that was published to the Amazon store allowed customers with a user account to find and book a car with a few simple voice commands. We were one of the first skills available on Amazon for car rentals.
